Legislative Auditor to Offer Local Government Training in Lafayette

Local government officials and their staffs can improve their knowledge of local government operations at a training session in Lafayette sponsored by the Legislative Auditor. The Level 2 training, which will be October 31, is the second step in the LLA’s three-level complimentary training and certification program for local government officials.

The one-day workshop will build on the classes presented in the Level 1 training session and will cover such topics as an introduction to fraud; best practices for collections, expenditures, payroll, personnel, and traffic tickets; and practical applications of the Local Government Budget Act.

“These courses are designed to help local government officials achieve their goals of providing better services to their citizens and improving the quality of their local audits,” Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera said. “Ultimately, the LLA’s goal is to help ensure government at the state and local levels is accountable, transparent, and responsive to Louisiana residents.”

The Legislative Auditor’s Center for Local Government Excellence will conduct the training. Instructors will be LLA General Counsel Jenifer Schaye, Assistant Legislative Auditor/Director of Local Government Services Bradley Cryer, Assistant Legislative Auditor/Director of Investigative Audit Services Roger Harris, LLA Senior Attorney Angela Heath, LLA Senior Attorney Patrick Virgadamo, LLA Advisory Services Manager Michael Battle, and LLA Advisory Services Manager Eric Sloan.

The center conducted similar sessions in Baton Rouge and Mandeville earlier this year. Since the CLGE started in 2015, more than 950 government officials and staff members, CPAs, and attorneys have received training.

The Lafayette session will be at the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE) Theater, 537 Cajundome Blvd., Lafayette, LA 70506.

There is no fee, but class size is limited so that speakers have a chance to work closely with participants. Pre-registration is required. For more information, contact Andrée Taylor at clge@lla.la.gov or 225-339-3996.
