Yes, amendments to adopted ordinances are made through adoption of a new ordinance amending the ordinance that is currently in effect.
Lawrason Act municipalities must comply with the procedures outlined in R.S. 33:406 for the adoption of an ordinance. Under these procedures, the proposed ordinance, which shall be in writing, must be introduced at a public meeting, and the title of the ordinance published in the official journal of the municipality along with notice of the time and location at which the proposed ordinance will be considered.
The municipality, following a public hearing on the proposed ordinance, may then take up and adopt the proposed ordinance at a public meeting. No ordinance, except for emergency ordinances as authorized in R.S. 33:405(D), shall be adopted at the same meeting at which it was introduced.
