Under R.S. 33:362(C) of the Lawrason Act, the board of aldermen may abolish any department, except a police department with an elected chief, upon the written recommendation of the mayor.

If the Town’s police chief is appointed, the council, upon the written recommendation of the mayor, could vote to abolish the police department pursuant to R.S. 33:362(C).
