There are five potential methods of procurement that may be utilized in the purchase of a used fire truck.
First, the used fire truck may be purchased under the Public Bid Law in accordance with the requirements of R.S. 38:2212.1.
Second, the used fire truck may be purchased off any existing state contract under the provisions of R.S. 38:2212.1(F) and R.S. 39:1702, et seq.
Third, if the used fire truck is $100,000 or less, it may be purchased using a request for proposals process as outlined in R.S. 38:2238.1, et seq.
Fourth, the District may purchase a surplus fire truck from another fire district or department directly for fair market value.
Fifth, if another public entity has a contract for a used fire truck and that same vendor has a second, identical used fire truck for sale, the District may be able to piggyback off of the other public entity’s contract either under the Local Services Law (AG method) or R.S. 38:321.1.
