In these opinions, the Attorney General’s office recognizes the crucial role employee recognition plays in the enhancement of employee morale, job satisfaction, loyalty, motivation and productivity and addresses what type of awards for employees are permissible and do not violate Article VII, §14(A) of the Louisiana Constitution. As an example from the opinions, a “moderately priced plaque” is acceptable to honor the service of a city employee but hosting a meal for employees and their guests is not. AG Op. No. 09-0238.
