That is partially correct. Up until June 4, 2024, R.S. 44:5(B)(11) provided that a public employee’s address was confidential, and not subject to the disclosure under a public records request, if that employee requested his/her address be kept confidential. Act 495 of the 2024, which became effective “upon signature of the governor,” amended R.S. 44:5(B)(11). Now, from June 4, 2024 (the date the governor signed the Act) forward, the personal home address of a public employee is confidential and not subject to disclosure under a public records request without the requirement that the employee request that it be confidential. This confidentiality also applies to a public employee’s home and cell number and to his/her personal email address.
There is nothing in the law, however, that keeps a public employee’s name confidential.
In this case, the personal home address of each public employee should be redacted. The names of the public employees should not be. Louisiana Legislative Auditor website: 12/22/2024 12:28:22 AM |
