Answer

The statutes do not provide a specific nomination process. Most Lawrason Act municipalities adopt rules, usually Robert’s Rules of Order, but may have their own internal rules to use for this process. Under Robert’s Rules of Order, at the open meeting, pursuant to the previously published agenda, an alderman, not the mayor, will nominate himself or a fellow alderman as mayor pro tem, the nomination will be seconded and a vote will take place on the nomination.
