Lake Forest Elementary Charter School

An employee of Lake Forest Elementary Charter School in New Orleans misused an office supply store credit card assigned to the school to ring up $2,180 in nine improper charges, according to an audit report released Monday by Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera.

The audit, performed by the Covington office of LaPorte, a professional accounting corporation, covered the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2014. The report said the employee who misused the credit card has been fired and has made restitution to the school.

The report said on September 13, 2013, school officials were reviewing and reconciling the credit card statement when they discovered that “an employee had misused the office supply credit card to purchase gift cards that were used personally.”

The report said that nine unauthorized transactions took place between July 11, 2013 and September 2, 2013.

The report for the state auditor said charter school officials notified the vendor, local law enforcement, the Orleans Parish School Board and the Legislative Auditor’s office about the credit card misuse.

Lake Forest Charter Elementary School had an enrollment of more than 500 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade during the 2013-14 academic year.
