Legislative Auditor to Offer Local Government Training in Baton Rouge

Local government officials and their staffs can improve their knowledge of internal control, accounting, and financial reporting at a two-day training session in Baton Rouge sponsored by the Legislative Auditor.

The training, which is built around a series of classes, will be held January 11-12, 2017, and also will provide information on legal issues that local government officials and their staff members encounter.

“The purpose of the Legislative Auditor’s office is to help ensure that government is accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the people of Louisiana,” Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera said. “These courses are designed to help local government officials achieve their goals of providing better services to their citizens and improving the quality of their local audits.”

The Legislative Auditor’s Center for Local Government Excellence will conduct the training. Instructors will be LLA General Counsel Jenifer Schaye, LLA Senior Attorney Patrick Virgadamo, LLA Staff Attorney Angela Heath, LLA Advisory Services Manager Michael Battle, LLA Advisory Services Manager Eric Sloan, and LLA Senior Analyst Andrée Taylor.

The center conducted similar sessions in Bossier City, Monroe, and Lafayette last year. The Baton Rouge session will be held at the BREC Administration Building, 6201 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

There is no fee, but class size is limited so that speakers have a chance to work closely with participants. Pre-registration is required.
